Kota Kinabalu: The Yayasan Dangsanak Sabah (YDS) channelled RM12,000 in financial aid to three orphanages, two tahfiz centres and two members of the Persatuan Masyarakat Brunei Sabah (PMBS) facing hardship as part of its Amal Aidilfitri Programme.
The contributions were presented by State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif at the PMBS Mahabbah Aidilfitri 2026 gathering held at Dewan Utama, Wisma Wanita, here, recently.
Each of the five institutions received RM2,000, while the two individual PMBS members received RM1,000 each.
The recipient institutions were Madrasah Tahfiz Alquran Al Karim in Kampung Benoni, Papar, represented by its Chairman Datuk Yahiya Ag Kahar and Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Ibnu Al-Jazari in Beringis, Papar. The three beneficiary orphanages are Persatuan Pengurusan Rumah Anak Yatim Islam Pitas (Baitul Amin) in Pitas, Rumah Anak Yatim dan Asnaf in Kampung Silad, Ranau, and Rumah Anak Yatim Home in Tuaran.
The two PMBS members who received individual assistance were PMBS Bandaraya Deputy Chairman Abdul Mumin Mohammad and PMBS Tanjung Aru Kota Kinabalu Information Chief Mohd Yussof Kassim, both of whom are dealing with personal difficulties and health issues.
Speaking at the event, YDS Chairman cum PMBS Vice President Datuk II Ahmad Shah Talib acknowledged that while the contributions were modest, they would go some way toward easing the burden on the recipient institutions and individuals.

“Through teamwork, we have been able to carry out several of PMBS and YDS’ biggest programmes,” he said, expressing gratitude to the PMBS President as well as Deputy President Datuk Saifuddin Tahir, YDS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim and the PMBS committee for making the programme a success.
Ahmad Shah, who also served as Executive Chairman of the PMBS Mahabbah Syawal 2026 Programme, noted that YDS has been active in joint initiatives with PMBS for some time.
For the past three years, the foundation has awarded cash incentives of between RM300 and RM500 to hundreds of children of PMBS members and members of the Brunei community in Sabah who excelled in their SPM and STPM examinations.
He added that the academic excellence awards would continue this year, with more high-achieving students expected to be recognised as an encouragement for them to pursue further success in their education.
More than 400 people attended the celebration, including PMBS branch heads, members and guests.
