Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian transporter and a restaurant worker were each sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court here for trafficking syabu weighing 69.14kg and 22.05kg, respectively.
Indonesian Kahar Amir, 46
(pic), was found guilty by Judge Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid to trafficking 69,136.2gm of syabu at 2.15pm on Feb 21, 2019 at the five-foot way in front of the Amber Freight Agencies (KK) Sdn Bhd, Lorong Cyber Square 2, Penampang.
Celestina in delivering the sentence on Thursday afternoon also ordered Kahar to be caned 12 strokes of the cane.
Kahar was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.
A total of 19 prosecution witnesses and one defence witness gave their testimonies throughout the trial.
Meanwhile, Low Siew Yuen, 54, was also found guilty by Celestina on Friday to trafficking syabu weighing 22, 053.8gm on Jan 4, 2022, at 4.15pm, at the Freight Mark Express, Inanam town, near here.

Low was spared the whipping due to his age, being over 50.
Seven prosecution’s witnesses and one defence witness testified in Low’s case.
Both kahar and Low were convicted under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act which carries the death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping if not sentenced to death, on conviction.
The court ordered both Kahar and Low to serve their imprisonment sentence from the date of their respective date of arrest.
Customs Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Anida Nasri prosecuted in Kahar’s case while counsel Dominic Chew represented Kahar.
In Low’s case, Deputy Public Prosecutor Dana Arabi Wazani prosecuted while Low was represented by counsel Rupilin Alik.
