TAMBUNAN: Three men were arrested for attempting to steal Telekom Malaysia (TM) cables at the roadside of Kampung Karanaan, Tambunan, at about 4.10am on Wednesday.
The incident was detected after villagers noticed suspicious activity in a nearby bush area and alerted the police.
Acting on the information, a team from the Tambunan police station rushed to the scene and detained the suspects while they were loading cables from an underground pit.
District police chief Supt Yampil Garai said the suspects, aged between 35 and 36, are locals from Tambunan and Keningau, with checks showing two have prior narcotics-related records.
Police also seized a pickup vehicle and two cable cutters believed to have been used in the offence, while the suspects were brought to the Keningau District Police Headquarters for further investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
