KENINGAU: Police believe they have crippled a car theft syndicate following the arrest of a second suspect at about 10.30pm along Jalan Durok on Tuesday night.
District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the arrest of a 32-year-old man followed the earlier capture of a first suspect in the district on Sunday night.
He said the operation was based on intelligence linked to a reported vehicle theft in Tambunan.
The case involved an Isuzu Space Cab reported stolen from in front of a house in Kampung Maras-Karas on March 31 at about 7.30pm.
Following the arrests, police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered four cars and two motorcycles in an oil palm plantation near Kampung Membulu, Sook.
“Checks found the vehicles were linked to theft cases reported in Keningau, Penampang and Papar,” he said.
