Kota Kinabalu: A final decision must be made on Sabah’s 40 per cent special grant under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) without further delay, said Sabah Backbenchers Club (BBC) Chairman Datuk Masiung Banah.
He said prolonged discussions and ongoing court processes should not continue without resolution.
“A conclusive decision is needed to end speculation surrounding the long-standing issue between the State and Federal governments,” he said in statement, Tuesday.
The matter arose from a resolution during an executive engagement session organised by the BBC and the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary’s Office in Kota Kinabalu.
The session involved government assemblymen, Sabah Members of Parliament and senior government officials at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
Masiung said the proposal will be brought to the Technical Committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) for follow-up action.

“A decision must be made to conclude the prolonged discussions without consensus on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement under MA63,” he said.
He said Sabah’s negotiating team remains optimistic that the Technical Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, can reach a mutually beneficial outcome.
Masiung, who is also Sedco Group Chairman, said members of the Council should respect the resolutions raised during the executive engagement session.
He added that other issues discussed included non-citizen population concerns in Sabah and electricity tariff increases.
