PETALING JAYA: A 39-year-old social media influencer has been detained by Melaka police after a three-year-old girl tested positive for cannabis exposure.
Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the man, who is the son of the child’s caregiver, was arrested on April 15 and has since been remanded.
The case came to light when a medical officer at Melaka Hospital treated the semi-conscious toddler on April 14. She was admitted for further care and has since been discharged.
“The victim tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol,” Dzulkhairi said, referring to a compound linked to cannabis.
The child’s mother later told doctors she had picked up her daughter from the caregiver’s home in Sungai Putat prior to the incident.
Police said the suspect tested negative for drugs and the case is being investigated under the Child Act 2001 for exposing a child to danger.
