How you act on social media matters: Coach

Kota Kinabalu: Veteran etiquette coach cum former senior civil servant Datuk Suzannah Liaw said the rise of digital communication has created a new front for professional misconduct that many people fail to recognise as a problem.

“Those who send curt, impolite messages via email and chat applications risk damaging their professional reputations, sometimes irreparably,” she told participants at a Beauty, Confidence and Communication: Curated Women’s Session held here, recently.

“Sometimes in email or chat, the way they answer you is so rude, but they do not realise it. There is no ‘thank you’ and no ‘please’, especially in chat groups. Because it is registered on WhatsApp, your rudeness can go viral. And when it goes viral, your image will drop and people will think of you differently,” she said.
