RANAU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that a weak earthquake occurred in Kundasang, Ranau, at 3.02am, Tuesday.
The magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km, centred at coordinates of 6.1 degrees north and 116.7 degrees east, about 8km northwest of Ranau.
No structural damage or injuries have been reported, according to the State Fire and Rescue Department.
It said in a statement that a monitoring operation, which began at 6.35am, involved inspections of shop premises, government buildings and public areas around Ranau town.
“Based on information from the public and observations by building caretakers, no structural damage has been reported so far and the situation remained under control and safe. No injuries or subsequent incidents have been reported,” the statement said.
However, the department said it would continue monitoring the situation from time to time and remained prepared for any possible aftershocks.

The public are also urged to immediately report any damage to the authorities and to adhere to any official instructions from the government agencies.
