LABUAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan has issued a compound notice to a retail trader in a suburban area of Labuan after being found using an expired weighing device for trade purposes.
State Chief Enforcement Officer (KPPN) Amiluddin Malang said the offence was detected during an inspection carried out by KPDN enforcement officers at the premises.
Further inspection found that the trader was still using a spring balance scale whose verification validity had expired since 13 October 2014.
“This action constitutes an offence under Section 14 of the Weights and Measures Act 1972 [Act 71],” he said.
If convicted, the individual may face a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
In this regard, KPDN Labuan stressed that all traders must ensure their weighing and measuring instruments are properly verified and remain within the valid certification period by licensed verifiers to guarantee measurement accuracy and protect consumer interests.
Members of the public with any complaints or related information are encouraged to channel them through official KPDN channels for further action.
