THE Government is looking at developing a planned resettlement scheme for Kampung Bahagia.
Deputy Human Resources Minister cum Batu Sapi Member of Parliament Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar (pic), during a visit to the fire-ravaged site, said the gazettement of the 60-acre village would lay the groundwork for more systematic development and a safer, more orderly resettlement plan for affected residents.
“Once this village is gazetted, the government will have a stronger basis to plan comprehensive development, including the construction of a planned settlement for residents,” he said.
The proposal comes in the wake of several previous fire incidents that have repeatedly displaced residents of the area, highlighting the urgent need for safer and more structured housing.
Under the planned resettlement framework, the Government intends to ensure that all homes are built to proper safety standards and equipped with basic amenities, including water supply, electricity, and systematically laid out road access to facilitate emergency response.
The Government is also weighing several approaches, including the construction of People’s Housing Projects or the provision of properly arranged residential lots as alternatives for affected residents.

“The primary objective is to ensure that residents can return to living conditions that are more comfortable, safe, and secure in terms of their welfare,” Khairul added.
He gave assurances that further discussions would be held with relevant agencies and the local community to ensure that any project undertaken genuinely reflects the needs of the affected population.
Khairul also confirmed that aid for fire victims is actively being channelled to ease their burden in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
