Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is strengthening cultural tourism through the development of the Murut Cultural Centre in Tenom.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the project under the Sabah Murut Cultural Centre (PKMST) aims to preserve Murut heritage while enhancing the State’s tourism appeal sustainably.
He said key components include the construction of a Rumah Tengkorak as an iconic structure and cultural interpretation centre featuring historical exhibits, artefacts and presentation spaces.
The project also involves the development of 10 burial hut structures representing various Murut sub-ethnic groups, each designed to reflect distinct architectural identities.
The project, which began on May 6, 2025, is expected to be completed by May 6, 2026 at a cost of RM825,559.60, with Jafry expressing confidence it will become a significant cultural tourism attraction in Sabah.
