Sandakan councillors briefed on water supply

SANDAKAN: Sandakan Municipal Councillors recently paid a courtesy call on newly appointed District Engineer of Jabatan Air Sandakan, Ts. Nelly Juee Philip, to address pressing water-related concerns affecting residents in the district.

Chong Kwek Leong stressed that this engagement marks a proactive step by MPS councillors to directly engage with relevant agencies, rather than relying on indirect communication channels.

He explained, as a representatives of the people, councillors have a duty not only to formulate policies but also to respond effectively to public complaints and ground issues.

He highlighted that moving forward, councillors will adopt a more coordinated, team-based approach in meeting agencies.

During the session, several critical matters were raised, including the Bandar Prima entrance repair works, scheduled to commence on April 13, which is expected to significantly impact water supply across Sandakan and about the ongoing water supply disruptions in kampung areas progress, concerns regarding ongoing infrastructure projects future planning and long-term solutions to recurring water issues. 

During the meeting, Nelly provided a detailed briefing on the current situation, ongoing mitigation efforts and future plans.

She also expressed appreciation for the councillors’ initiative in fostering closer collaboration and sharing constructive feedback.

Chong further reiterated that MPS councillors remain committed to strengthening coordination with government agencies, addressing public complaints more efficiently bridging communication between authorities and the people. 

He said continuous engagement and a strong working relationship between MPS and relevant agencies are crucial in ensuring better service delivery and improving the quality of life for the people of Sandakan.
