Missing man found dead in Kota Belud river

KOTA BELUD: A 33-year-old man who was feared drowned while bathing in a river at Kampung Purak Ogis Supuan was found dead on Wednesday morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5.12pm on Tuesday and a team from BBP Kota Belud arrived at the scene at 5.42pm, about 25km away.

Operations commander Farhad Abdullah said a search and rescue operation was conducted along the riverbank with the assistance of villagers but the victim was not located and the operation was suspended at 20:15 due to weather conditions.

The operation resumed the following day and the victim, identified as Fernandez Anak Sawing@Andin, was found by members of the public at about 6.30am, approximately 2.1km from where he was reported missing.

“The victim was confirmed dead at the scene and handed over to police for further action, and the operation involving six personnel ended at 8.35am after the area was declared safe,” he said.
