LAHAD DATU: A 54-year-old man was sentenced by the Sessions Court here to a total of 165 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane for each charge after pleading guilty to 11 rape charges involving his two daughters.

Sessions Court Judge Suhaila Selag imposed 15 years’ jail for each charge, comprising five involving the first daughter and six involving the second, and ordered the sentences to run consecutively.
The accused was also given 10 strokes of the cane for each charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.

According to the facts of the case, the victims, now aged 25 and 22, lodged a police report in Tawau after alleging years of sexual abuse beginning when the first victim was 15 and the second victim was 18.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shahril Haja Mohaideen prosecuted the case, with investigations led by Inspector Malati Labpak, while police said they maintain a zero-tolerance approach to sexual crimes.
