Kota Kinabalu: A 19-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court with raping an underage girl in Ranau two years ago.
The accused pleaded not guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to commiting the crime against the 14-year-old girl in March 2024, between 6pm and 11pm.

The accused, who was 17 years during the alleged offence, was charged under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between 10 years and 30 years and whipping on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah prosecuting, applied for another mention date and objected bail.
The court fixed May 4 for mention and ordered the accused to be further remanded.
In another case, a 35-year-old man was sentenced to eight weeks’ jail and fined RM1,200 or six weeks jail for theft.

Awang Asmerul Aspar pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to stealing a handphone belonging to one Charles Dawit on March 27, this year, at 3.55am in a house at Kg Kopungit here.
The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.
The prosecution in tendering the facts of the case said that the complainant had met Asmerul through a social network app and invited him to his house in Kampung Kopungit at12.30am on the said day.
While at the house, the complainant placed his Samsung Galaxy Note10+ mobile phone on a table in the living room.
At about 3.55am, Awang left the house and was picked up by a Grab vehicle at a nearby bus stop.
The complainant later discovered that his mobile phone was missing and suspected Awang had taken it without his knowledge or consent.
Acting on information, police arrested Awang on March 29, at a house in Kampung Rampayan, Manggatal, where the mobile phone was recovered.
Investigations revealed that Awang admitted to taking the phone from the complainant’s house during their meeting.
The prosecution further stated that the phone was traced using the “Find Hub” application, which matched the device’s IMEI number.
The complainant later positively identified the phone through its password, stored contacts, personal photographs, and matching IMEI number, and also identified Awang in an identification parade.
