TUARAN: About 700 damaged vehicles classified as total loss and occupying roughly 0.8 hectares were destroyed in a fire at a storage yard along Jalan Dungun Marabahai Tambalang 2 here on Sunday.
The blaze, reported at about 1pm, is believed to have started from a nearby forest fire before spreading to the used vehicle storage area.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station chief Kurong Beki said firefighters received an emergency call at 1.10pm and deployed nine personnel with two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle to the site about five kilometres away.
He said additional assistance from the Lintas and Kota Kinabalu fire stations brought the total number of firefighters involved in the operation to 25.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, about 30 vehicles were saved, and the fire was brought under control at 3.31pm before overhaul works were conducted, with the operation ending at 4.55pm while the cause remains under investigation.
