Kota Kinabalu: A motorcyclist was killed after it lost control and crashed into the rear of a car on the Jalan Tun Fuad Stephans bridge, early Thursday.
Acting Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said police received a report on the incident at about 1am.
The accident involved a Perodua Bezza driven by a 20-year-old local woman and a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle ridden by a 21-year-old local man.
“Initial investigations found that upon reaching the location, the motorcycle behind lost control and struck the rear right side of the car before skidding onto the road,” he said in a statement.
He said the motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Hospital Queen Elizabeth II.
The victim’s body was taken to the forensic unit at Hospital Queen Elizabeth I for a post-mortem.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Both vehicles involved have been seized for further inspection at Puspakom,” he said.
Syed Lot added that further investigations are ongoing, including recording statements from witnesses and the victim’s family to assist the probe.
