KOTA MARUDU: Heavy overnight rain triggered flash floods in Kota Marudu and Pitas, prompting disaster declarations in both districts on Tuesday.

Kota Marudu District Officer Meirin Sugara declared a flood disaster at 10 a.m., while Pitas District Officer Asdi @ Mohd Faizal Hussin issued a similar declaration at 2 p.m.

Authorities identified several flood-prone hotspots and activated Disaster Operations Centres and on-site control posts.

Rescue teams are evacuating affected residents to temporary shelters.

The Fire and Rescue Department reported relocating 25 residents from Kampung Beliajung to SMK Tandek 2 after an emergency call at 8:16 a.m., completing the transfer by 8:55 a.m.
