Honouring women’s impact on society
Susan, Ho, Liew, Stella and others jointly cut a cake to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
KOTA KINABALU: The International Women’s Day serves to recognize the efforts and sacrifices women have made for the society, while striving for greater gender equality and women empowerment. 

The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said the modern women play many roles, as mothers, wives, and daughters in their families, as well as planners, leaders, and drivers of progress in their respective careers and community organizations.

“Women not only bring vitality and creativity to the development of association affairs, but also shine in various fields including business, education, culture, and politics,” she said.

She hopes to see more women stepping onto the stage in different sectors to demonstrate their talents and make meaningful contributions to not only achieve personal success, but also spread warmth and compassion throughout society.

“Let us stand together to build a more inclusive, more equal, and better future,” Susan said in her speech at the International Women’s Day and Appreciation Dinner organized by USCCAKK, her, recently.

She also took the opportunity to thank the support rendered towards the Chinese New Year Dragons, Unicorns and Lions Dance Festival held on January 25 this year, where 124 troupes, including 33 dragons, 35 unicorns, 48 lions and eight Peking lions.

She said the Cultural Village Exhibition that was held during the festival further showcased the unique customs and traditions of the 15 clan associations under USCCAKK. 

Susan said the association also brought back the Chinese New Year children’s colouring competition and added a Chinese calligraphy programme.

Also present at the event were Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Kiulu deputy chief Datuk George Teo, former minister of tourism, culture and environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew, Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) president Tan Sri Dr T.C. Goh and his spouse Puan Sri Joanne Ho, USCCAKK life honorary president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee and his spouse Datin Stella Kong, life honorary president Datuk Lau Kok Sing, life honorary president John Lim, honorary advisors Tan Sri Paul Lim, Datuk James Hwong and Datuk Tan Kai Teck and chairlady of Women’s Section, Tay Siew Hua.
