Sabah should consider maximising the potential of its oil and gas resources and move towards greater participation in the sector, said Keningau MP and Tambunan assemblyman Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan (

Jeffrey, who is also Star president, said the State should not allow its resource wealth to be constrained by a gradual approach to revenue growth when greater economic potential could be realised through stronger participation in the industry.

He also expressed support for Sarawak’s legal challenge related to the Petroleum Development Act (PDA), describing it as a legitimate effort by the State to assert its constitutional position in managing its resources.
Jeffrey said protecting national oil company Petronas was important but should not come at the expense of empowering Sabah to play a more meaningful role in developing its own oil and gas sector.
He added that Sabah had the talent and potential to develop its own industry and called for clearer legal and policy frameworks to enable the State to better manage its natural resources.
