Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old woman from China who entered Sabah illegally and failed to report to immigration authorities was fined a total of RM6,000.
Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain handed down the sentence to Lin Miao, who pleaded guilty to the charges.
On the first count, Lin was fined RM3,000, or four months’ jail in default, for entering Sabah illegally at 5.40pm on Feb 11 at the second floor of the Transborder/Transit Immigration Inspection Counter at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).
The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, on conviction.
On the second count, she was ordered to pay another RM3,000, or four months’ jail in default, for failing to report to immigration authorities upon arrival at KKIA on Feb 5 between 11.45am and 4.20pm.
The court ordered Lin to be referred to the Immigration Department after paying the fines or serving the jail sentence for further action.
In the same court, two Indonesians were fined RM3,000 each, or four months’ jail in default, for entering Sabah without proper documents.
They were arrested during a recent operation, paid the fines, and were referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.
Prosecuting Officers Norhayati Abd Hari and Norizan Awang Tanda from the Immigration Department represented the prosecution.
