Woman among Tambunan cable theft gang busted
KENINGAU: Police have crippled a cable theft gang with the arrest of four suspects, including a woman, in a pre-dawn raid at Kampung Mogong–Tangaban, Tambunan.

The operation by Keningau District Police began around 2.30am after surveillance spotted suspicious activity. One suspect was detained first, leading to the arrest of three others at separate locations.

District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the suspects, aged 29 to 49, include a man with 16 criminal and 10 drug records, and another listed as a wanted person under Section 414 of the Penal Code.

Investigations found the group used a Proton Persona to pull underground Telekom Malaysia cables, targeting high-value metal content for resale. Police seized the vehicle and 16 tools, including chains, cable cutters and hammers.

The suspects are being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code. A remand application will be made to allow further investigation, including drug screening tests.
