SOOK: Residents here are set to benefit from improved road connectivity following the maintenance and upgrading of a 15km road linking Kampung Simpang Empat Tulid to Kampung Damai, Minawo.
Tulid Assemblyman Jordan Jude Ellron said the project came about following a courtesy visit to the Keningau Public Works Department on Feb 12.
Following the visit, the State Public Works Department approved the first phase of upgrading five kilometres of the laterite road to a gravel road, with construction now underway.
Jordan said efforts are ongoing to secure approval for the remaining 10 kilometres to ensure a more complete and safer road network to Pekan Keningau.
“The machinery is already on site and work has begun,” said Jordan, who is also Assistant Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.
Residents in the area have welcomed the initiative, saying the improved road will cut travel time when they need to conduct business in Pekan Keningau.
The existing 15-kilometre road serves as a shortcut from Kampung Simpang Empat Tulid to Minawo and onward to Keningau, but has been difficult to navigate, particularly during the rainy season.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to provide residents with an easier and more reliable route compared to current conditions.
