PENAMPANG: The Native Court Enactment 2026 (NCE 2026) is ready for tabling at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session in April, after going through extensive screening and engagements.
Former Sabah and Sarawak High Court Judge Datuk Martin Idang said this at the seminar Empowering Native Justice: The Way Forward organised by the Sabah of Justices of the Peace Sabah (Majaps), recently.
“A new law is needed to replace the old framework. NCE 2026 is proposed as the main instrument to modernise and empower Sabah’s Native Court (MAN) in line with current and future needs.
“NCE 2026 will introduce a clear judicial structure with a hierarchy, complete with checks and balances mechanisms.
