Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard on Thursday that diary entries indicated Zara Qairina Mahathir had experienced psychological distress.
Consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Chua Sze Hung, the 67th deponent, said the entries reflected anger and frustration, including harsh words directed at her mother.
Responding to questions from counsel Datuk Ram Singh, he said the entries suggested ongoing conflicts that caused significant psychological distress.
Chua testified that Zara wrote about lacking mental strength and anticipating her own death if her situation did not change, while also expressing a desire to attend boarding school to distance herself from her mother and find peace, although she later wrote that this expectation was not realised.
He further told the court that the diary described alleged negative treatment by her parents and others, but noted that the claims could not be verified and reflected her personal perceptions, adding that parental conflict was among several factors contributing to vulnerability.
