Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah arrested a state civil servant on suspicion of soliciting and receiving approximately RM3,000 in bribes in return for awarding a Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) project to a contractor company.
According to a source, the male suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at 12.40pm when he turned up to give his statement at the MACC Sabah office.

“Preliminary investigations believe the suspect committed the offence in 2024.
“The suspect is believed to have received the bribe money in stages, namely through two online fund transfer transactions into his personal account as well as his child’s account,” the source said.
MACC Sabah Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of at least five times the amount or value of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
He said the suspect will be released after his statement is recorded.
