A far from convincing performance
SABAH FC secured another win over 10-man Brunei DPMM FC in the Super League held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last Saturday.

I had earlier expected us to come top in this tie after the team managed to put five goals past PDRM FC in the previous match a week earlier.

Unfortunately to my disappointment, it was not a convincing display by our boys against a team playing with 10 players for more than 70 minutes.

We were fortunate the match was extended to extra minutes that allowed us to be awarded a penalty when Farhand Roslan was fouled by Yura Indera Putera.

Gabriel Peres proved once again that he is the man who can be trusted in the decisive moment, as he coolly put the ball past the goalkeeper for the last-gasp win.

We really had to thank our lucky stars for the three points, as the home side had started very well. They were in control of the game from the start of the whistle and created some anxious moments for Sabah FC.

The turning point came in the 16th minute when Brunei DPMM FC’s striker Ramadhan Sananta was shown the red card after raising his feet too high that hit Darren Lok in the face.

Despite playing with a numerical advantage, Sabah FC still found it hard to break down the home team’s defence and their custodian was also in good form to deny any goal-bound efforts.

It was not a one-sided affair as one expected, as the home side continued to pose threats to Sabah FC’s goals and we also had Damien Lim to thank for pulling some good stops to deny them.

The host had their fans on their feet when Jordan Murray scored in the 80th minute but luckily for Sabah FC, it was later ruled out for offside.

While the win may not have been the prettiest, the crucial three points nevertheless allowed the team to leapfrog Penang FC and Brunei DPMM FC, moving into eighth position in the league table.

As the season comes to a close, we will be gearing up for one last showdown against Terengganu FC this Friday here at the Likas Stadium.

Hopefully we can continue our winning streak and secure another three points.
