Woman held over abandoned baby case in Semporna
SEMPORNA: Police arrested a 28-year-old non-citizen woman to assist investigations into the discovery of a baby boy here on Tuesday.

District police chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said a police report was received at 8.16am on May 12 from a member of the public regarding the discovery of a baby boy wrapped in cloth on a pedestrian walkway in front of an empty house in Kampung Panji.

He said the baby was found at about 7am and taken to Hospital Semporna for examination and treatment.

The two-month-old baby, weighing about 3kg, was reported to be in good condition without injuries and remained under hospital observation before being handed over to the Welfare Department for further action.

Tan said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
