Kota Kinabalu: Kim Teck Cheong (KTC) Consolidated Berhad is making one of its largest strategic investments in Sabah with a RM150 million expansion at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), strengthening its position as a leading logistics and industrial player across Sabah, Malaysia, Brunei, and the broader Asean market.

“The new KTC Industrial Park is designed to strengthen regional supply chain capabilities and support long-term business growth.

“When completed, it will become one of the largest warehouse and logistics facilities in the region,” KTC Consolidated Berhad Chairman Ts Datuk Seri Zuki Ali said during the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.

The new KTC Industrial Park will feature nearly 500,000 square feet of covered warehouse space and storage capacity of up to 200,000 pallet positions.

He said the development will also expand the logistics and distribution capabilities of the company, as well as enhance operational efficiency for regional supply chains.

“Unlike traditional warehousing projects, we see this development as a long-term industrial ecosystem capable of supporting future regional demand,” he added.

Zuki revealed that the company plans to grow its annual revenue from RM1.3 billion to RM2 billion within the next three years, underscoring the scale of its expansion strategy.

To support this growth, he also said the company aims to double its transportation fleet to nearly 400 additional vehicles and trucks, reinforcing its standing as one of the major logistics operators in East Malaysia and Brunei.

Additionally, he added that the expansion is expected to generate approximately 500 new jobs for locals, which will increase KTC’s total workforce to nearly 2,300 employees.

“This means more families will be supported, providing greater economic security for households and more futures built for the next generation of Sabahans,” he said.

As KTC approaches its 90th anniversary, Zuki emphasised that the company’s identity remains firmly rooted in Sabah, as the state houses its headquarters, management structure and administrative operations.

“This stands as clear proof that a company born from Sabah can compete internationally without forgetting its origins,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, KTC Consolidation Berhad Executive Director Datuk Dexter Lau said the company is making one of its boldest investments yet because it believes strongly in Sabah’s future.

He said KTC sees itself as a Sabah-grown company with a responsibility to contribute to the state’s economic development and resilience.

“We put a lot of weight and confidence into Sabah because this is our home,” he said, adding that the company continues to invest heavily in the state even amid external challenges and negative sentiment affecting global markets.

Dexter stressed that corporations should not remain passive during periods of uncertainty, arguing instead that companies must work alongside governments to help strengthen economic growth.

“As a publicly listed company, KTC must continue growing not only for shareholders but also for Sabah and the wider Malaysian market,” he said.

While more than 90pc of KTC’s profits still come from East Malaysia and Brunei, he revealed that the group has already established operational offices in Peninsular Malaysia and is strengthening its nationwide business arm through Kim Teck Cheong Niaga.

He highlighted that the current expansion is part of a larger long-term vision for the company’s future, emphasising that the company is now laying the foundation for sustained growth across future generations.

Importantly, Dexter framed the company’s expansion as proof that Sabah-based businesses can compete internationally.

“What other companies can do, Sabahans can do as well,” he said.
