Kota Kinabalu: Sabah MIC Chairman S. Chandra Segar said the proposed setting up of an Indian Consulate in Sabah could open doors to massive economic opportunities for the State.
“The establishment of an Indian Consulate in Sabah would represent a historic milestone in Malaysia-India relations, particularly for East Malaysia,” said Chandra, who is also the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia Vice President.
While pointing out that it would accelerate Sabah’s integration into global value chains, Chandra said India’s robust economic trajectory is a solid reason for closer bilateral engagement.
“With a projected Gross Domestic Product growth of 6.3 to 6.8 per cent for financial year 2025–2026 and a population exceeding 1.4 billion, India is on course to become the world’s third largest economy by 2030-2031,” he said.
