KOTA KINABALU: A RM40 monthly electricity rebate for eligible hardcore poor households is far more than just a small deduction on a utility bill as it is a crucial boost for them to keep the lights on and food on the table.
Sabah Electricity (SE), in a statement Saturday, said the rebate is not merely a number printed on paper but for struggling households, it means extra groceries in the kitchen, help with children’s school expenses and the simple but vital comfort of having the lights on at night so youngsters can study in peace.
The RM40 Electricity Bill Rebate Programme is specially targeted at those classified as hardcore poor under the 2022 Poverty Line Income (PGK), in line with the Government’s pledge to ease the financial burden weighing heavily on vulnerable Malaysians.
SE stated that only Heads of Households listed and verified as hardcore poor under the e-Kasih system qualify for the assistance.
Consumers registered with e-Kasih can check their eligibility via the SE website at www.sesb.com.my and the RM40 rebate is credited automatically into the electricity bills of those confirmed under the e-Kasih database without new application required.
The move is designed to ensure aid reaches quickly and directly to those in need.
SE stressed that the initiative forms part of its ongoing commitment to providing sustainable and inclusive access to electricity supply, particularly for low-income communities.
Eligible users will see their monthly bill reduced automatically, subject to confirmation of their status in the relevant database.
The utility company added that the measure supports wider efforts to strengthen the social safety net and ensure any tariff adjustments do not place further strain on vulnerable groups.
For more information on eligibility and how the rebate works, consumers can contact SE’s customer service hotline at 15444 or 088-51 5000, or access the SE mobile app.
