Man charged with trafficking 16kg syabu 
The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
KOTA KINABALU: A 43-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, with trafficking 16,314 grammes of syabu.

No plea was recorded from Khoo Chan Woon when the charge was read before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.

Khoo is accused of committing the offence on Feb 2 this year at 1.15pm at the lobby of Tower B, K-Avenue Condominium, Jalan Cyber City, Donggongon, near here.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, informed the court that the complainant was in an office when a man, later identified as Zawawi, grabbed him by the neck.

The complainant later sought treatment at a government hospital, and a medical report was obtained.

Zawawi admitted that he had choked the complainant, the court heard. Counsel Mohd Luqman Syazwan, representing Zawawi, requested a lenient sentence.
