TAWAU: The Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry will submit an application to the State Government for funding to upgrade and maintain facilities at the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) Tawau Campus.
State Minister Datuk James Ratib said the application would be presented to the State Cabinet after the ministry reviews several urgent needs raised by the campus management during his working visit to IPG Tawau on Sunday.

Among the priorities identified are maintenance works on the ageing campus perimeter fencing, which he described as important to ensure safety and create a more conducive learning environment.
In addition to State Government funding, he said the ministry would seek support and cooperation from the Federal Education Ministry (MoE) to address the campus’s infrastructure requirements.
During his visit, James said the provision of smart boards would also be considered to support training and learning methods for trainee teachers.
He added that the initiative aligns with the State’s education digitalisation agenda, ensuring future educators are exposed to the latest technology in pedagogy.
The ministry will also look into issues related to internet and telecommunications coverage around the campus and raise the matter with relevant authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to address inadequate data coverage affecting the learning process.
Earlier, during his inspection of facilities and teacher training progress at the campus, James was briefed by IPG Tawau management on several key needs, particularly related to security, learning facilities, and supporting infrastructure.
The campus management also submitted a request for funding to procure a new bus to replace the existing ageing bus for trainees and staff.
James said his ministry remains committed to collaborating with various parties to strengthen teacher training facilities and support the development of quality education in the State.
