Keningau cobra scare ends in quick rescue 
The captured snake was later released.
KENINGAU: A homeowner panicked and fled the bathroom after discovering a black spitting cobra inside the toilet of a house in Kampung Kota Ayangan on Tuesday.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Station chief Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said they received an emergency call at about 4.29pm regarding the incident.

He said the report was lodged by Gooi Chek Teong, who informed firefighters of the presence of a venomous cobra hiding in the bathroom of his home.

An EMRS and BNA 2025 team comprising three personnel was dispatched to the location immediately.

“The snake was successfully captured within less than 10 minutes from the start of the operation,” he said when contacted by the Daily Express on Wednesday.

Severinus said the cobra was later released back into its natural habitat away from residential areas.

He advised the public to regularly check damp and dark areas in their homes and not to attempt to handle snakes on their own, especially venomous species.
