“During these operations, our team seized substances believed to be methamphetamine, also known as Syabu,” said Dzulbaharin. “All suspects have been arrested and are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
Two of the suspects were further investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act, after their urine tests returned positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine use.
Dzulbaharin emphasized the Lahad Datu Police’s zero-tolerance stance toward drug-related activities and reassured the public that efforts to combat criminal activities, especially drug trafficking, will continue with increased operations to safeguard the community.
“These operations are a reflection of our commitment to tackling criminal activities in Lahad Datu and ensuring public safety,” he added.
Meanwhile, in Semporna, police arrested a 32-year-old foreign national on Tuesday night during a Op Tapis operation at Kampung Batu. District Police Chief, Supt. Tan Hiap Wah, reported that the suspect was acting suspiciously and attempted to flee when approached by officers.
“At approximately 10pm, the suspect tried to escape, but after a brief struggle, he was apprehended. A subsequent search revealed that he was in possession of 51.13 grams of what is believed to be Syabu,” said Tan. The drugs were found inside a plastic bag, which the suspect reportedly handed over to the police during the arrest.
The suspect also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine, and further checks revealed that he had no previous criminal record. He is currently under investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Supt. Tan reiterated that Semporna Police remain committed to tackling drug activities in the area. “We continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the community, and we urge the public to report any suspicious activities or drug-related concerns to us.”
Both police forces have urged the public to cooperate by providing information that could help in combating drugs and other criminal activities.
