TAWAU: Police detained two local men suspected of illegally possessing police property during a beat patrol in front of a bank in the Fajar Bandar Tawau area here on Friday.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the first suspect, a 32-year-old unemployed man from Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu, and the second, a 43-year-old lorry driver from Felda Umas, were checked, leading to the discovery of a green reflective vest bearing the letters PDRM and a camouflage cap with the word “POLIS”.

He said a waist pouch was also found to contain a transparent plastic packet with clear crystalline lumps believed to be syabu weighing about 0.10 gram.
Jasmin said background checks showed both suspects had no prior criminal records and that they, along with the seized items, were detained for crime prevention purposes and further investigation, including to determine the motive for possessing police-related equipment.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 89 of the Police Act 1967, while the suspected drug seizure is being probed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
