Senior Fire Officer Muhammad Kamarulzaman said the Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call via the station hotline at 9.50am.
A team of five personnel was immediately dispatched to the scene, located about four kilometres from the fire station.
“One victim, who was also the lorry driver, was successfully extricated by firefighters with assistance from members of the public before being taken to hospital by a Health Ministry ambulance for further treatment,” he said.
The lorry attendant, who was at the scene and unharmed, said the vehicle was believed to have suffered brake failure, causing it to lose control and collide with another vehicle approaching from the right at the roundabout before plunging into a large roadside drain.
The operation concluded at 10.06am. A road sign near the roundabout was damaged after being struck by the lorry.
Police were also at the scene to conduct investigations.
