Man held for attacking family in Tawau
According to Jasmin, the suspect allegedly threatened to harm his younger sister and also attacked his older brother in the incident, which reportedly took place around 11am at their home.
TAWAU: Police arrested a local man who allegedly acted aggressively, attacking his own family members, including using a broom, in an incident at Kampung Rancangan Ranggu, here, on Sunday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 27-year-old suspect was arrested by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division at around 6.15pm, in front of his house.

“The suspect is believed to have acted aggressively after his father reprimanded him,” he said, confirming that the police report was filed by the suspect’s 41-year-old brother.

According to Jasmin, the suspect allegedly threatened to harm his younger sister and also attacked his older brother in the incident, which reportedly took place around 11am at their home.

Further details revealed that the suspect attempted to strike the complainant with a broom but missed, before punching his older brother, who had tried to intervene and check on their father.

“The suspect also threatened to kill his younger sister,” he added, noting that the complainant made the report out of concern for his younger brother, who is known to become aggressive when given advice.

Regarding the police’s follow-up actions, Jasmin stated that the suspect was taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 323 of the same code for causing harm.

He said police will not tolerate any threats to family safety or public security, taking firm action to protect the public.

“We will not compromise with any form of intimidation, violence, or aggressive behaviour, especially when it involves weapons, which could endanger the safety of individuals and disturb public peace,” he said.

Jasmin also reminded the public to resolve disputes through legal channels and to report any dangerous situations to the police immediately.
