11,272 Semporna premises checked for cheats: KPDN

SEMPORNA: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) here conducted a total of 11,272 inspections on business premises in Semporna and Kunak throughout last year.

Semporna KPDN Branch Chief Satunlucy Lamioh @ Lamidah said the figure represented an increase compared to 5,062 inspections throughout the year 2024.

The inspections were carried out through several enforcement operations including Ops Tiris, Ops Ria and Ops Kesan 4.0, as well as integrated operations with other agencies, which recorded 159 cases under various acts with seizures amounting to RM1,327,085.65.

“From all enforcement actions, compounds amounting to RM72, 900 were issued involving various offences, while 13 cases were prosecuted in court throughout 2025,” he said on Monday.

Satunlucy added that Semporna KPDN also received 85 consumer complaints, all of which were resolved.

He said all enforcement activities and inspections were carried out by 14 Semporna KPDN enforcement officers to ensure the availability of essential goods and that business activities were conducted in accordance with legislation enforced by the ministry.

The activities also aimed to protect consumer interests and combat leakages of subsidised controlled goods.

He expressed appreciation to KPDN’s strategic partners including the police, General Operations Force, Marine Police and local authorities for their close cooperation throughout the year in helping the Ministry combat the leakage of controlled goods, particularly in the nation’s border waters.

“Continued cooperation is important to ensure government subsidies can be fully utilised by the people,” he said.

In this regard, he urged the local community to become the Ministry’s eyes and ears by providing information about unethical traders or any violations of the law to help regulate subsidised controlled goods.

Complaints can also be lodged through the Ez ADU KPDN application, the Enforcement Command Centre at 03-8882 6088 or 03-8882 6245 or through official letters to the nearest KPDN office.
