KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission reminded prospective candidates to prepare early ahead of nomination day for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections, scheduled for this Saturday (Jan 10).
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, on Thursday, said nomination papers must be submitted between 9am and 10am at Dewan Sri Lamag, Kinabatangan, either by the candidate, proposer and seconder, or any one or two of them.

Khairul advised candidates to complete forms, conduct early checks with the returning officer or the Sabah Election Office, and settle deposits in advance, with receipts produced on nomination day.
Candidates representing political parties were reminded to submit authorisation letters permitting the use of party symbols when filing their nomination papers.
He added that candidates who have paid campaign material deposits are subject to the Election Offences Act 1954 and local council by-laws, urging all parties to comply with EC rules, local authority regulations and police directives to ensure a smooth nomination process.
