TAWAU: A local youth sustained injuries to his finger and abdomen after being attacked with a folding knife by his neighbour at a rented room in the town centre, on Saturday.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said the victim was a 26-year-old man, while the suspect was a foreigner in his 20s.
“In the incident at about 6.42pm, the victim reportedly went to meet the suspect to question him about his behaviour, which allegedly involved frequently disturbing a woman who lives alone.
“However, after opening the door, the suspect suddenly brandished a folding knife and attacked the victim, causing injuries,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Champin said the injuries prompted the victim to seek immediate medical treatment before lodging a police report.
He added that a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested the suspect at about 11.32pm in the town area on the same day.
“A folding knife believed to have been used in the incident was also seized,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Champin stressed that police would not compromise on any acts of violent crime and advised the public not to take matters into their own hands, but to report such incidents to the police for further action.
