Kota Kinabalu: The Annual Children Art Award Ceremony 2025, held at Tinggi Tinggi Creative Hub, celebrated the creativity and artistic achievements of young talents who have shown remarkable growth throughout the year.
Organised by My Art Studio’s Lintas Plaza and Pintas Square branches, the event honoured 100 young artists aged between five and 16 across three sessions.
Principal Chua Sang Yuu praised the students’ impressive development, noting improvements not only in technical skill but also in creative confidence and willingness to explore new ideas. For this year, we have seen significant growth in both technical skills and creative confidence among our young artists. They are comfortable exploring new ground and new themes, and taking greater ownership of their artistic choices.
“The most notable progress comes from the younger ones, who express their ideas in such unique ways that spark even more fun and brilliant artworks,” Chua said on Sunday.
He added that the awards aim to celebrate children’s hard work, passion, creativity and perseverance.
“This award is mainly for the kids to recognise their dedication and to showcase the masterpieces they have created in the studio. Through events like this, we hope the public can appreciate children’s art even more, in a fun and engaging way.”
All student artworks are on display at Tinggi Tinggi Creative Hub from Dec 5 to 12.
Chua also outlined the key criteria used to identify young artistic talent, such as curiosity, visual imagination, persistence, and an above-average grasp of composition, colour and form.
“To further develop these talented students we expose them to more advanced techniques, help identify areas for breakthroughs, and guide them in expressing their work from different angles. Ultimately, we want them to grow at a pace that matches their ability so they feel supported, not stressed,” he said.
With My Art Studio now collaborating closely with the Sabah Youth Network for Creatives (SYNC), Chua expressed optimism for the future of children’s art education in the state.
“With growing awareness of the value of creativity, more families and schools are recognising the importance of nurturing artistic expression.
“We expect greater integration of arts into mainstream education, more community-based art initiatives, and expanded access to quality training,” he added.
