KOTA BELUD: Eight people were injured after two vehicles collided, with one car catching fire, on the Tuaran–Kota Belud Road at Bukit Kelawat on Sunday night.
The incident, which occurred around 11.30pm, involved a Perodua Myvi and a Proton Saga VVT carrying seven passengers, including three children and a baby.
Acting Kota Belud District Police Chief, Assistant Supt Ahmad Fathie Md Salleh, said preliminary investigations indicated that the Proton Saga was travelling towards
Tuaran from Kota Belud when it collided head-on with the Perodua Myvi coming from the opposite direction.
“As a result of the impact, the Perodua Myvi caught fire. All individuals involved were taken to Kota Belud Hospital for treatment,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He also urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Kota Belud District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Elgie Bakuk said the department received an emergency call at 11.33pm. A team of officers, one fire engine, and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle were dispatched.
“The Perodua Myvi was completely burnt. Victims had been removed from both vehicles with the help of members of the public before our arrival. The fire was extinguished using a single hose line from the fire engine,” he said.
The EMRS team also provided initial medical treatment at the scene.
