SANDAKAN: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) vice-president Thomas Lau has congratulated the three Warisan assemblymen representing constituencies in Sandakan — Calvin Chong Ket Kiun (Elopura), Alex Thien (Tanjong Papatnd Alex Wong (Karamunting) — on their victories in the 2025 state election.
In an open letter issued on Monday, Lau said Sandakan choice and expressed confidence that the newly elected representatives understood the needs and aspirations of the local community.
“I don’t have to mention what it is all about,” he said, referring to longstanding issues affecting residents.
Lau urged all three assemblymen to prioritise efforts to address the many challenges faced by the people of Sandakan in their daily lives.
“Although you are in the opposition, it does not mean your duties and responsibilities end here,” he said. “There is a mammoth task ahead of us. We must face the challenges head-on, relentlessly. There is no ‘honeymoon’, so to speak.”
He stressed that SAPP would continue to play a constructive and holistic role, extending support whenever it benefits the people.
“SAPP will monitor all efforts that contribute to Sandakan’s progress in all aspects — whether economic, environmental or infrastructure development,” he said.
“We all have a role in moving Sandakan forward in our endeavour to bring the town back to life. We can achieve our objectives if we do the work properly and as a team.”
Lau assured the three newly elected Yang Berhormat (YBs) of SAPP’s strong support in their efforts to bring progress and benefits to the people of Sandakan.
“I wish all the YBs success in their duties — albeit not easy ones — for our beautiful Sandakan,” he added.
In the recent Sabah state election, SAPP fielded Henley Liew in Tanjong Papat.
The seat was won by Warisan’s Alex Thien, who defeated incumbent Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Poon (KDM) and five other candidates.
