Cheshire Home to raise RM300,000

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Cheshire Home & Services Kota Kinabalu launched its Cheshire Fundraising ‘Raffle Ticket’ Project to raise crucial funds for sustaining the Home’s operations and services.

“Once every two years, we hold major fundraising events. This year, we’ve chosen a raffle ticket project with a target of RM300,000,” said President Datuk Lawrence Hee at a press conference, Thursday.

The raffle draw will take place on 24 Feb next year, shortly after Chinese New Year, at 6pm at the Kota Kinabalu Home on Jalan Vokasional. Organisations and individuals are welcome to sponsor prizes, including any brand of electrical appliances.

There are 21 prizes in total, with main prizes including a Sym Husky 150 and a Ranger Max Explorer 130 motorcycles, 5g and 10g gold bars, and a notebook. Other prizes include a front load washer, 50’’ Smart TV, twin-door refrigerator, and more household items.

Raffle tickets are priced at RM10 each or RM100 for a book of ten and can be obtained at the Home’s office. Cash donations are also accepted and will be tax-exempt.

For 51 years, Cheshire Home has provided residential care, early education, hospitality training, and advocacy programs for persons with disabilities.

Notable services include the Taska Mesra Cheshire daycare for children under four, the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) which has trained over 300 graduates in food and beverage, housekeeping, and pastry, and the Cheshire Mobility service offering transport for wheelchair users and the elderly.

The Home also runs the Cheshire Edoris Chocz project, producing unique handmade chocolates while providing employment opportunities for OKU individuals trained in pastry.

Operating all services requires about RM2.8 million yearly, with 60% funded by the government and 40pc reliant on public fundraising. 

“We greatly welcome and appreciate public support, especially given current economic challenges,” Lawrence said.
