The project was approved under the Rolling Plan 3, Tenth Malaysia Plan (RP3, RMK10) at a total cost of RM32.76 million, covering both the contract cost and cost of medical and non-medical equipment.
It was fully completed on Aug 5, this year.
The centre houses 18 fully-equipped dental treatment rooms, along with supporting facilities such as a Dental Laboratory, Central Sterilisation Room and X-Ray room.
“Four main dental specialties are also brought together under one roof, namely orthodontics, periodontics, restorative dentistry and dental public health.
“This comprehensive facility will undoubtedly be eagerly welcome by the people of Sabah and benefit all levels of society, including individuals with chronic illnesses,” Lukanisman said in his speech during the ceremony.
He extended gratitude to all parties involved, from the Federal and State governments, local authorities, implementing agencies and the appointed contractors, for their dedication and commitment.
The Specialist Centre is expected to begin operations in early January, and can accommodate up to 150 patients per day.
As a one-stop centre for dental services, particularly for residents of Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, it will facilitate better access to specialist dental care and help reduce congestion at existing hospitals.
The strong collaboration between MOH, JKR Sabah and the State Government reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to developing health facilities through good governance so that the best health services can be delivered for the well-being of all Malaysians.
