LABUAN: It was right for DAP not to accept any positions in Sabah as it failed its supporters as reflected by the resounding defeat for the party.
Activist Lau Seng Kiat noted that in the previous elections, DAP won seats with handsome majorities exceeding thousands and nobody expected a “zero” this time.

Even its two-term Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin who is the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities bit the dust by securing merely 2,532 votes against Warisan’s 6,120 by Datuk Junz Wong Hong Jun.
The humiliating results were due to the party being disconnected with major Sabah issues such MA63 and Sabah’s entitlement of the 40pc tax revenue. Even on local issues such as rising cost of living and doing businesses, roads littered with potholes and water woes there was no sound from DAP reps.
“The party was out of touch with the ongoing woes of the community, leaving everything to the government departments to handle,” said Lau.
DAP contested 8 seats and these included Likas, Luyang, Kapayan, Tanjung Papat, Elopura, Kemabong, Sri Tanjung and Tg Aru.
Lau noted that at Federal level there was also allegations of arrogance by some DAP leaders.
Lau was referring to an incident where Housing and Local government Minister Nga Kor Ming threatened a reporter for asking a question.
“When DAP was in the opposition such reaction was not exhibited,” said Lau.
“Promises would not help regain trust unless accompanied by solid action,” he added.
