Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged regarding the existence of the Circle 19 group in SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha, which might have ‘contributed’ to the incident involving Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Counsel Datuk Ram Singh lodged the report at 1.30pm on Monday at the Luyang police station after the 54th deponent, Nurul Syahadah Ibrahim, testified that she was unsure whether she needed to make a police report about the group’s existence.
Ram also asked Nurul whether she would return to the school and dismantle the group, to which she again said she was uncertain.
When questioned by Ram on whether the members of the group should be arrested by the police, she replied that she was not sure.
Ram: Can you lodge a police report? You have to save a person’s life. Can you lodge a police report?
Nurul: I’m not sure.
Ram: Never mind, I’ll lodge a police report because you’re not sure.
Ram: Did you make any commitment to stop this Circle 19?
Nurul: I did.
Ram: But this group still exists?Nurul: I’m not sure.
Ram: So the discipline unit is hopeless?
Nurul: I’m not sure.
In his report, Ram requested the police to take action and conduct further investigation into the Circle 19 group, stating that the group might be the cause of bullying or related to Zara’s incident.
He also stated that he wanted the school to abolish the group since it still exists.
During the proceedings, Nurul testified that she was unsure whether there was any possibility that the Circle 19 group had allegedly bullied Zara.
She said she did not allow any groups or cliques (berpuak-puak) in school and understood Circle 19 to be a group of close friends who carried out similar routines together.
According to her, she only became aware of the group’s existence in August but was unsure how she found out about it.
She agreed that the members of Circle 19 often used bad language.
