Kota Kinabalu: THE HEARING of contempt of court involving Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal over his alleged remarks related to the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, have been rescheduled to Dec 18 for mention.
The case was supposed to be heard Monday before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan. It also involves Che Muna Din, or Mona Din, who faces the same alleged offence.
However, the date had been rescheduled following a request letter from Shafie’s counsel dated Nov 21.
Both cases to be heard on the same day.
On Nov 4, it was reported that the committal application for the contempt proceedings against Shafie and Mona Din was originally supposed to be heard yesterday.
According to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), in line with the leave granted by the court on October 23, the committal proceeding documents were served on Shafie on the afternoon of Nov 3 in Tawau and for Mona Din on Nove 1 at her residence in Shah Alam.
Both respondents are required to respond to the statement in accordance with Rule 52 Order 3(2) of the Rules of Court 2012 and file a supporting affidavit within 14 days.
On Oct 23, Amir granted the Attorney General leave to initiate contempt of court proceedings against both respondents, after hearing submissions from the prosecution.
