KOTA KINABALU: Upko is urging all local party leaders to sit together, seek reconciliation and begin honest discussions to form a truly united Sabah state cabinet that represents the entire population.
The party says the results of the 17th Sabah state election mark a historic moment, signalling a clear push from voters for a political direction free from outside interference.
Deputy president Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin said Sabahans want their future determined locally, even if cooperation with national parties remains possible as long as undue influence is rejected.
He pointed to Khairy Jamaluddin’s comments on the “Keluar Sekejap” podcast describing this as Sabah’s “GPS moment,” an opportunity to build strong local political footing similar to Sarawak.
Donald added that leaders must let go of ego, friction and old grudges that have long divided the state’s political landscape.
He said unity is essential to forming a stable government ahead of the next general election, expected by early 2028.
For Sabah to stand firm at the federal level, he said the state must send 25 united MPs capable of defending Sabah’s rights under the Federal Constitution.
